Leading UPS manufacturer, CENTIEL, has kicked-off with its provision of power protection for Staffordshire-based professional football club with the installation of CENTIEL’s PremiumTower UPS system. The new UPS now supports the Club’s entire IT infrastructure. Previously, the Club, made headline news due to delays in its Premier League matches during 2017, following electrical power surges which affected the club’s existing legacy power protection system.
Mike Elms, managing director, CENTIEL explains: “The club had experienced issues with power outages in the past which affected turnstiles, betting systems and ticket sales. The football club’s management team were keen to improve the experience of the fans and so was looking to update an old legacy UPS.
The commissioning of our PremiumTower 20kVA stand-alone UPS has now been completed. A relatively small, straightforward project which will have huge benefits for the football club. We also installed an external maintenance bypass panel which is an often overlooked, but very important feature, enabling the IT load to continue to be supplied while the UPS unit is electrically isolated for safe and full maintenance to be performed. “
In December 2017, ITV News reported that a Premier League match had been delayed for more than half an hour following the loss of power to much of the ground. Fans were left outside the stadium when the announcement was made because the turnstiles could not be operated to let them in.
The installation was completed out of hours and not on a match day to minimise any potential disruption. The club now has peace-of-mind that the power to the grounds is fully protected for the benefit of their fans.”
PremiumTower is a stand-alone UPS system ideally suited to applications where minimizing the total cost of ownership is a significant factor. Available in power ratings of 10kW to 60kW, the UPS cabinets are parallelable to provide either additional power capacity or redundancy.
